Sofia Travel

Sofia is the capital and biggest city in Bulgaria, in Eastern Europe. Considered one of the oldest cities in Europe, Sofia's long history is evident in it's old churches, old houses & other landmarks.

The city's various buildings and structures are Russian and Viennese in architectural design. In the heart of the city, one can see various open-air restaurants, cafes, bazaars, bar & clubs, a lot of which are open way past midnight. A lot of this has to do with the fact that most major universities are located in Sofia. It is therefore not an uncommon sight to find that nightlife in Sofia is predominantly of the younger generation. Makes one wonder if the student population in Sofia do have time to study, what with all the partying every night. The city's streets are very clean & crime rate here is considered quite low. Locals can tell if a person is a newcomer in Sofia, as car drivers get priority over pedestrians who hesitate to cross streets without traffic lights/pedestrian lanes.

Since Sofia is located between mountains, skiing is popular sport during the winter period while sunbathing and trekking is preferred during the summer. The small villages outside of the city limits are worth discovering, not just for the Nature scenery, but also because the local people are very hospitable and will even invite you to stay in their homes as guests. Guests might even sample some home cooked Bulgarian food. Racial discrimination is a foreign word for Sofians, and Bulgarians in general.
